PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the opening/closing judgement of eye with accuracy by binarizing a face image, extracting an eye existence area including the eye, calculating the shape function showing the feature of the eye from the area, calculating an evaluation function and performing the opening/closing judgement of the eye. SOLUTION: After the face image by a camera 11 is inputted in an input means 12, an A/D conversion is performed for the image, the image is converted into a digital multilevel image, the image is binarized by a prescribed threshold by a binarization means 13, that is, the image is made into black and white picture elements. Next, an eye existence area is extracted by an eye extraction means 14, the centroid is determined from the coordinate average of the black picture element of a binary image and the rectangular area of prescribed left and right range along X direction in which the lump of the black picture elements closest to the centroid exists, is extracted as the eye existence area. An evaluation function calculation means 15 calculates the shape function showing the feature of an eye image, calculates the evaluation function taking notice of a circular arc and records the function in a memory. A threshold is determined from the value K of the evaluation function by a judging means 16 and the opening/closing decision of the eye is judged. |
