PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To insure the fitting part of a valve body while maintaining the size in the axial direction of a mission case, and act a load due to operation of a brake as the inner force of a rear cover although the size in the axial direction of the rear cover is shortened, in an automatic transmission for shortening the length in the axial direction. SOLUTION: A rear cover 6 is formed with an extending part 16f preventing slipout unably to rotate of a multidisc brake B5 and fitting to it so as to project inside a mission case 15. By applying oil pressure to a hydraulic servo 77, a piston 76 is extended so as to actuate the brake B5. A this time, the force due to oil pressure in the direction of mutually separating is applied between a cylinder 75 as a reaction supporting member and the extending part 16f to which the pressing force from the piston 76 is applied, but the cylinder 75 and the extending part 16f are formed into the same rear case 16, the force acts as the inner force of the case 16, and hence the mission case 15 is not influenced from the force. |
