PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a generating method of character pattern which can realize remarkable compression of a font data quantity without causing deterioration of quality of a character pattern, and provide an character output device which can reduce the hardware cost required for a memory means. SOLUTION: A font ROM 2 stores standard data expressing the shapes of standardized sized ones as for subcharacter patterns such as left-hand radicals, crown parts, and right-hand radicals constituting chinese characters, and character pattern data including part scaling data for changing multiplying factor of standard subcharacter patterns and difference data expressing difference between the basic strokes of a subcharacter pattern to be generated and the basic strokes of a standard subcharacter pattern expressed from the standard data. A CPU 1 changes multiplying factor of the standard subcharacter pattern by the part scaling data included in the character pattern data, correct the standard data based on the difference data in the character pattern data, and hence the shape of the character pattern is painted. |
