The sifter has a sifting wheel (1) loaded with fine material, from which sifted air flows away through an axial exit aperture (2). Between the wheel and the exit aperture, and independent of the wheel, is a follow on acceleration rotor (3). Both wheel and rotor have drives coupled so that the rotor inflow edge to wheel outflow edge speed ratio is indirectly proportional to their corresponding radii. The rotor fits inside the wheel, rotating in the same direction yet separate from it.
