METAL-CONTAINING RIBONUCLEOTIDE POLYPEPTIDES

Bioactive copper-, zinc- or calcium-containing ribonucleopolypeptides (RNP) are disclosed. They are non-mitogenic morphogenetic agents for blood vessels and have a defined primary structure for intercellular communication containing genetic information. Zn/Ca/Cu-RNP may enzymatically hydrolyse nucleic acids in a controlled manner (controlled nuclease activity) and their bioactivity may be mutually modulated and controlled by means of their Zn/Ca/Cu metal ion content, that acts as a "molecular switch". These compounds selectively stimulate directional growth or morphogenesis of blood vessels in vivo and in vitro and cause neovascularisation of tissues. Also disclosed are a process for preparing and extracting RNP, their use and medicaments.
