Liquid crystalline (LC) medium based on a mixt. of polar cpds. with positive dielectric anisotropy contains m=fluoro-phenyl trans-cyclohexyl-cyclohexane-carboxylate(s) of formula (I); in which R = H or 1-15 C alk(en)yl, opt. mono-substd. by CN or CF3 or at least mono-substd. by halogen, in which CH2 gp(s). may be replaced by -O-, -S-, -cyclobutan-1,3-diyl, -CO-, -CO-O-, -O-CO- or -O-CO-O, without adjacent O atoms; Y = F, Cl or 1-6 C halogenated alkyl, alkenyl or alkoxy; L1 = H or F.
