Raw sewage is admitted to the divided tanks 10 by inlet 18 for flocculation in chamber 56 and clarification in chamber 58 with discharge of unwanted sludge from well 20 and overflow of clarified effluent at 24. The flow of raw sewage past the Venturi 40 causes a recirculation of sludge in launder 42 via pipes 60 and 60<SP>1</SP> to the raw sewage at 38. This loss of sludge produces a differential in hydrostatic pressure between the liquid levels in the tank 10 and the launder 42 and fresh sludge flows via pipes 50 and 50<SP>1</SP>. Chemicals may be fed to the sewage by introduction into the launder 42. Flocculating paddles may be provided (Fig. 4, not shown).</p> |
