TETRAPHENYLBENZIDINE COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new tetraphenylbenzidine compound for photoconductive material excellent in flexibility, useful as a charge transporting material in the photosensitive layer in the photoreceptor of electrophotography. SOLUTION: The compound is a teraphenylbezidine compound of formula I (R is an alkyl) or of formula II, for example, N-[4-(β-1-pyrenylvinyl)phenyl]-N'- phenyl-N-N'-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-(1,1'-biphenyl)-4,4'-diamine. The compounds of formula I and II are produced by so-called modified Wittig reaction namelly condensation of the corresponding aldehyde and the corresponding phosphonic ester in the presence of a basic catalyst. The teraphenylbenzidine mixture of formula III and IV is similarly produced by the previously described reaction of the corresponding mixtures of aldehydes.
