The force multiplier tool (10) comprises a planocentric hypocycloidal gearing mechanism adapted for hand tool use. Specifically, the tool (10) comprises a ring gear (58), a first and a second pinion gear (42, 44) disposed inside said ring gear (58) and revolving about an input eccentric shaft (12), a plurality of drive pins (54, 56), and an input shaft (12) and an output shaft (24). The input eccentric shaft (12) provides a camming action which force the pinions (42, 44) to revolve within the ring gear (58) in a planocentric hypocycloidal path, said first and second pinion gears (42, 44) being separated in frequency by one hundred and eighty degrees. The pinion gears (42, 44) have a plurality of drive holes (46-52) having diameters larger than the diameter of the drive pins (54, 56) such that when the pinion gears (42, 44) are rotating, the drive pins (54, 56) turn the output shaft (24). Importantly, the second pinion gear (44) may be omitted and the number of drive pins (54, 56) and drive holes (46-52) reduced to one while still allowing the tool (10) to operate, although the use of two pinions provides better dynamic balance and continuous driving.
