The upper end portions of splayed legs (4) are connected by pins (14) that slide lengthwise of slots (15) extending transversely of a crosspiece (2) of T-bar cross section, the opposite ends of which can be supported by pairs of splayed legs (4), respectively. Sliding of the pins (14) in their slots (15) enables the ends of the legs (14) to be fitted into sockets (22) in the crosspiece (2) and enables the legs (4) to be withdrawn lengthwise from the crosspiece sockets (22), then swung together in substantial parallelism, and finally swung about the axis of the pins (14) into overlapping folded relationship nested in angles of the crosspiece (2). Tubular extensions (34) can be provided for the legs (4), and steps (39) connecting the legs at opposite ends of the crosspiece (2) can be provided for enabling a worker to step up onto the crosspiece (2).
