A cork-screw has a sleeve-shaped housing (1), a guiding bushing (2) arranged therein, a mounting (3) in which a cork-screw spiral (4) is rotationally fixed, and a gear (5) with at least one gearwheel (toothed wheel 12a, 13a) that co-operates with the housing (1) and at least one gearwheel (toothed wheel 12b, 13b) that co-operates with the mounting (3). The gearwheels (toothed wheels 12a, 13a, 12b, 13b) are arranged on a common axis (11) and are firmly connected to each other. The connections between the gearwheels on the one hand (toothed wheels 12a, 13a, 12b, 13b) and the housing (1) and mounting (3) on the other hand are designed in such a way that the gear (5) causes the housing (1) and the mounting (3) for the cork-screw spiral (4) to move in opposite axial directions.
