摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject carrier having short start-up time and easy handleability and useful for a biological treating apparatus for sewage, etc., by covering activated carbon with a fiber aggregate and bonding the carbon to the aggregate with a resin having a melting point lower than that of the fiber aggregate. SOLUTION: A nonwoven polyester cloth (single fiber fineness: 6 de, porosity: 90%) is used as the fiber aggregate. A mixture of 50wt.% of a coal-based activated carbon having particle diameter of 1-3mm and 50wt.% of a resin having a melting point lower than that of the fiber aggregate and consisting of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin (melting point: 80 deg.C) having particle diameter of 0.5-1.5mm is sandwiched between a pair of the above nonwoven cloths. The sandwiched product is heated at 83 deg.C in a hot-air dryer to effect the thermal welding of the activated carbon and the nonwoven cloths. The welded product is cooled and cut into about 60mm cubes to obtain the objective microorganism carrier useful e.g. for a biological treating apparatus for the sewage treatment having short start-up time of the apparatus and easy handleability and effective for efficiently removing organic components, ammoniacal nitrogen, etc., in the treating water.</p>
