The window assembly for a building has a lintel (10) whose length exceeds the distance between the sides (3,4) of the window aperture by a sufficient amount to give an adequate bearing at each end. The lintel is hollow and may accommodate a roll-up blind, and is completely buried in the structure of the wall. The single or double glass panes of the window are mounted on a swinging frame (50) which is independent of the lintel with the roll-up blind. The lintel contains an arched chamber containing the spool (38) and the rolled-up blind.
