PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject carrier with large surface area, capable of nonspecifically adsorbing a great quantity of nucleic acid, thus useful for nucleic acid detection, etc., by compounding an ultraparamagnetic metal oxide coated with silica with an inorganic porous wall substance consisting of fine silica particles. SOLUTION: This carrier is obtained by compounding an ultraparamagnetic metal oxide (e.g. iron oxide) coated with silica with an inorganic porous wall substance consisting of fine silica particles. This carrier comprises magnetic silica particles 0.1-60nm in surface pore diameter, 0.01-1.5ml/g in pore volume and 100-800m<2> /g in specific surface area, being capable of nonspecifically adsorbing a great quantity of nucleic acid, thus being useful for extracting and purifying nucleic acid from nucleic acid-contg. biomaterials, purifying nucleic acid-amplified products, as a reagent for nucleic acid detection, etc. This magnetic carrier, after binding nucleic acid thereto, can be easily separated from a liquid by using magnetic field. |
