1,155,312. Glow plug ignition system. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. July 13, 1966 [July 14, 1965], No.31457/66. Heading F1B. A system for heating glow plugs of a multicylinder internal-combustion engine comprises a star-connected polyphase current generator D adapted to be coupled to the engine to be driven thereby and connectible by its individual phase windings X, Y, Z each to at least one glow plug K 1 K 2 K 3 and by its star point through a changeover switch U to one pole of a battery for firstly preheating the plugs with direct current or to the opposite pole of the battery after the starting up of the engine whereby each of the phase windings of the polyphase generator serves as a D.C. lead for pre-heating while the engine is stationary and becomes when the engine is running an A.C. source which takes over from the battery the sustained heating of the respective glow plug or glow plugs. The field winding E of the polyphase generator is connected to a voltage and output controlled regulating device R which additionally contains a temperature control element T connected to a temperature sensor F adapted to respond to the engine combustion chamber temperature and which thereby brings about a reduction in heating current as the temperature increases and vice versa. The current carrying leads from the polyphase generator to the respective glow plugs may each contain a heating current monitor. Two pole glow plugs may be employed.
|
