PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the image processing based on the processing level determined for every prescribed area based on the feature of an image. SOLUTION: A character thickness decision part 116 decides the thickness of the characters and line drawings in an input image and the area, an edge detection part 114 detects the contours of the characters and the line drawings and a saturation decision part 115 decides the saturation of the line drawings. Because a LUT 117 determines the processing level for every prescribed area of the input image based of the decision results and a masking/UCR part 109 and an output filter 111 perform image processings for the input image based on the processing level determined for every prescribed area, image quality is improved by performing the processing of the area which is weaker or stronger as compared with a normal processing for the image area whose image grade is remarkably lowered in the normal processing. |
