PURPOSE: To obtain an electroconductive ceramic excellent in excellent mechani cal characteristics and electroconductivity, comprising a compound oxide of MgO and SiO2 in a fixed weight ratio and an iron oxide, having a volume specific resistance value of <= a specific value. CONSTITUTION: A forsterite which is a compound oxide of MgO and SiO2 and has <= about 15wt.% based on the total of an impurity content is mixed with an iron oxide which is selected from FeO, Fe2 O3 and Fe3 O4 and has <= about 10wt.% based on the total of an impurity content in the ratio of 40-80wt.% of the forsterite and 60-20wt.% of the iron oxide and further mixed with a solvent and a binder to give a slurry, which is dried to prepare raw material powder. The raw material powder is molded into a fixed shape, baked at about 1,200-1,300 deg.C for about 1-2 hours in the atmosphere to give the objective electroconductive ceramic which has crystal of 2MgO.SiO2 , MgSiO3 and MgFeO3 and/or Fe3 O4 , <=10<7> Ω.cm volume specific resistance value, 10-11×10<-6> / deg.C coefficient of thermal expansion, 100-140GPa Young's modulus and 10-15kg/mm<2> flexural strength. |
