PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the worsening of controllability in the damping force characteristic of a rear-wheel side shock absorber to be produced by using the rod surface information detected at the front-wheel side going timewise later than the rear-wheel side, by securing the damping force characteristic of the rear-wheel side shock absorber to the specified characteristic during the backward movement of a vehicle. SOLUTION: This suspension system is provided with a rear-wheel side springing vertical state quantity detecting means (e) which seeks a front-wheel side springing vertical state quantity detected by a front-wheel side springing vertical state quantity detecting means (c) and a rear-wheel side springing vertical state quantity on the basis of the specified transfer function from the car speed by a vehicle speed detecting means (d). In succession, on the basis of a control signal to be secured from each springing vertical state quantity at both the front and rear wheels sides, respective damping force characteristics of each of shock absorbers b1 and b2 are variably controlled by a reference control part (f) of a damping force characteristic control means (g). At this time when a vehicle backward movement is judged by a backward movement jading means (h), the damping force characteristic of at least the rear-wheel side shock absorber b2 is secured to the specified characteristic by a backward movement time compensation control part (i). |
