PURPOSE: To solve instability of operation of a sodium-sulfur battery at the time of initial operation of the battery or at the time of operation for a long time and at the same time to remarkably lessen the number of manufacturing processes. CONSTITUTION: A diaphragm tube 3 is installed in a solid electrolytic tube 2 joined to an insulating ring 11, a sodium storage container 4 is installed in inside the tube 3, and the sodium storage container 4 is provided with a sodium flowing hole 41, a thin trunk part 42, and a flange part 43. The flange part 43 is joined to the insulating ring 11, a gap between the solid electrolytic tube 2 and the sodium storage container 4 is filled with sodium, argon gas and sodium are stored respectively in an inner upper part and an inner lower part of the sodium storage container 4. While being surrounded with sulfur S, the solid electrolyte tube 2 composed in such a manner is housed in a cathode container 1 to give a sodium-sulfur battery. |
