The lamp body includes the base (18) and intermediate pieces (12,14,16) which are selected by the retailer from a range of variously shaped and coloured components, to the purchaser's taste. All have a central axial hole (20) admitting a split, optionally slit, tube (8,10). The base pieces have a recessed underside (32) and cord channel (6). The assembled parts are securely clamped by a threaded hollow rod (4) containing the supply cord (6) and carrying a standard lamp socket (2) at the top. Top (24) and bottom (28) nuts exert pressure through washers (26,22), optimally having cutaway sectors to permit lateral insertion during assembly. A bobbin (30), optimally with similar side opening, is included at the bottom to accommodate surplus cord.
