The invention concerns a housing (3) for a mechanism (2), in particular a mechanism (2) for a windscreen wiper system. The mechanism housing (3) is made of glass fibre-reinforced plastics, is open on one side and is closed there by a metal cover (17) which simultaneously acts as an axial support for bearing shafts of the mechanism (2). The use of glass fibre-reinforced plastics imparts sufficient rigidity to the housing (3) and has the further advantage that the mechanism housing (3) is substantially more lightweight than corresponding housings made of metal.
