PURPOSE: To obtain an antibacterial agent dispersible or soluble in a liquid such as water without using a particular assistant such as solvent, having high compatibility with synthetic resins and coating materials and capable of imparting the resin, etc., with high antibacterial property and to obtain a resin and a coating material containing the agent. CONSTITUTION: An antibacterial agent and an antibacterial resin and coating material containing the agent are produced by using a polyethylenimine derivative obtained by introducing at least one kind of hydrophobic group selected from an alkyl, aβ-hydroxyalkyl and an acyl each having a carbon number of 8-30 and at least one kind of hydropholic group selected from acetic acid group and propionic acid group in the form of zinc salt, copper salt or silver salt into a polyethylenimine.
