PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 2-methyl naphthalene from stock oil containing 1 methyl naphthalene by an economical method with the use of an isomerization reaction. SOLUTION: A solid catalyst which is used for the isomerization reaction of stock oil containing 1 methyl naphthalene and deteriorated in activity is brought into contact with at least one kind compound selected from tetralin and an alkyltetralin.
