PURPOSE: To provide a rare earth element added multicore optical fiber having high output and excellent in amplification wavelength property and the producing method. CONSTITUTION: The rare earth element added multicore optical fiber 1 is obtained by forming a multicore out of a 1st core member 4, composed of a high refractive index optical fiber core 2, in which a rare earth element and A1 are added, and a low refractive index quartz glass made clad 3 covering the core 2, and a 2nd core member 7, composed of a middle refractive index optical fiber core 5, in which the rare earth element is added, and a low refractive index quartz glass made clad 6 covering the core 5, and jacketing the multicore in a quartz tube 8 and the producing method includes a 1st process for jacketing the multicore composed of the 1st core member 4 and the 2nd core member 7 in the quartz tube and a 2nd process for depositing soot on the multicore preform or jacketing. |
