PURPOSE: To provide a circuit for protecting a piezoelectric inverter from overvoltage by surely detecting abnormal increase of output of a piezoelectric transformer 1 due to the no-load condition or the like without drop of the efficiency. CONSTITUTION: In a piezoelectric inverter detecting a current IL flowing into a load RL with a current detecting means 8 and comprising a control means 11 for adjusting the frequency applied to the piezoelectric transformer 1 with a signal from this current detecting means 8, a surge clamper 9 which flows a surge current with the predetermined voltage is connected in parallel with the load RL and current detecting means 8.
