Label roll for printing - uses single label and printing-linked band axis and exposed adhesive layer on unprinted side of label band so inked band bears on this where exposed

A printing-inked band (3) lies on the label band (2) right the way along, the two bands being rolled up to form the label roll (1). An adhesive layer (4) on the non-printing side of the label band is left unprotected so the uninked side of the bears directly on the adhesive layer. The two bands are coiled up into a roll in a rotation sense which ensures the printing-inked side always forms the outside of the roll. Ink is transferred from the inked band to the label band by a printer and the two bands are rolled up onto a single axis. In service, the two bands are run off the axis and so in below the printer for the thermal transfer printing operation whence the label band is led off as against the inked band which is wound on the axis roller.
