<p>A method of isolating an anti-ischaemic drug useful for treatment of heart conditions or ischaemias including the step of screening candidate compounds for their ability to inhibit CPT-1. The anti-ischaemic drug may be structural analogues of amiodarone or perhexiline. These drugs may be useful in the treatment of other conditions including angina pectoris, evolving acute myocardial infarction, aortic stenosis, congestive cardiomyopathy, skeletal myopathy, intermittent claudication and renal or cerebral ischaemia. Also disclosed is a method of monitoring the treatment of ischaemia by assaying for the effect of perhexiline or amiodarone using a CPT-1 inhibition assay.</p> |
