To produce a woven ribbon, with warps and wefts, at least one lower (7) and an upper (8) woven ribbon are woven simultaneously over each other on a loom, esp. a ribbon needle loom. At the two overlaid edges (12, 15), loops (16, 17) are formed at the direction change points of the lower (10) and upper (11) wefts, so that the loops (16, 17) of the upper (8) and lower (7) ribbons are generally over each other. The loops (16, 17) of the two ribbons (7, 8) are bonded together by a special locking yarn (21), in a further step, passing through the loops. Also claimed is a woven ribbon where the wefts (10, 11) extend over the outer edges (13, 14) by only part of the ribbon width, to form the loops (16, 17). The dedicated locking yarn (21) locks the loops together with the following pair of loops (16', 17') in the warp direction.
