The hammer drill has a rear connecting section with manually movable grip element (40) which remains stationary relative to the tool socket (10) when the latter is driven in rotation. The connecting section has an outer sleeve part (15) which engages at least in the locking position of the grip element with same and then remains stationary. The grip element comprises a stirrup part displaceable across the longitudinal axis of the tool socket (10) and in the locking position is in positive engagement with the sleeve part and section of the hammer drill housing.
