Production of carboxylic acids.. F5-. By reacting one or more 4-12C branched-chain mono-olefins with CO and excess water in the presence of liqd. HF, at a temp. of 20-90 degrees C. Pref. compositional ratio H2O:olefins 1.05:1 to 2:1 mole; HF:olefin 2:1 to 20:1. Opt. a diluent is present (pref. 4-6C linear paraffin, partic n-pentane), with a ratio of diluent: olefin 0.7:1 to 2:1, to improve the selectivity of the conversion.
