PURPOSE: To obtain an L-amino acid by affecting a specific microorganism to a mixture of D-isomer and L-isomer of the amino acid having an amino group protected with a specific group to enzymatically hydrolyze only L-isomer without the production of D-isomer. CONSTITUTION: A mixture of D-isomer and L-isomer of an amino acid or its salt in which the amino group is protected with the group of the formula (R is an alkyl or a benzyl) is affected by a microrganism in Corynebacterium, Microbacterium, Rhodotorula, Bacillus, Schizosaccharomyces, their culture mixture or the separated cell bodies in 6-10pH and 10-50 deg.C.
