<p>PURPOSE: To adjust a valve clearance, provide a compact size in height direction, reduce weight of a valve system having a suspending mechanism for an internal combustion engine, and prevent malfunction of the suspending mechanism caused by press-fitting at the time of assembling. CONSTITUTION: Provided are an inverted-cup shaped lifter 11 and a piston 30 which reciprocates in a direction substantially perpendicular to an axial center of an intake/exhaust valve 6 inside the lifter 11. A first entering hole 33 is formed on the piston 30 for the entrance of a stem end 7a of the intake/ exhaust valve 6. An adjusting recession 34 is formed on a portion of the piston 30 with which the stem end abuts for adjusting thickness, and thereby a valve clearance is adjusted. A cylinder groove 22 is formed on a lower surface of an end wall 12 of the lifter 11. The piston 30 is slidably inserted into the cylinder groove 22. A piston guide 20 is press-fitted and fixed to the lifter 11.</p> |
