A laser printer or xerography machine has a fixing roll with a cylindrical metal tube (41) with a coil (43), coated with a dielectric thermally conductive material (45), wound around it to produce heat. A second metallic tube (47) surrounds the coil and is itself surrounded by a film (49). Pref. the tubes are of Al and the thermally conductive material is silicone rubber. The film is pref. of Teflon. The first tube may be coated with a dielectric thermally conductive material over which a coil is wound to produce heat.
