The automobile wheel (1) comprises a central circular web (2), a cylindrical rim (3) composed of a rear (4) and front (5) cylindrical parts. The rim parts are separated by the web plane which extends perpendicularly to the rim axis (6). A steel sound insulating ring (11) placed concentric with the rim has a layer of visco-elastic material and is mechanically coupled to the rim. This coupling ensures the ring is hooped onto the cylindrical parts of the rim. The ring has an omega shaped transverse section and has two circular support edges ensuring contact with the rim parts.
