Magnetic mixing apparatus comprises a mixing chamber having a first pipe leading into it from above, a liquid inlet tube extending within the pipe and surrounded by a solids feed screw a second pipe branching into the first pipe to deliver solids to the feed screw, and an annular electromagnetic inductor surrounding the mixing chamber. In use the chamber contains ferromagnetic particles that are fluidised by the inductor to mix the liquid and solid components. The formed suspension is discharged via a horizontal S-shaped pipe. Used esp. in producing shell moulds for investment casting. Intensified mixing which eliminates the need to premoisten the solids. More concentrated suspensions (65% solids) can be made. The mixing promotes chemical reaction.
