The heating system has a burner, e.g. for gas or oil, and at least one heat exchanger. The heat exchanger transfers energy to a medium, e.g. water, which is pumped to radiators or similar heat dispensing devices. A variety of sensors are used in addition to simple temperature sensors, e.g. flame ionisation sensors, flowmeters, pressure transducers, etc. In reaction to the sensor outputs and the program, the controller can vary fuel and air flow, heat medium flow, etc. The software used by the processor unit can deal with a wide range of installations and types of systems including combination boilers, which heat a closed loop radiator system as well as instant domestic hot water.
