Anti-theft security system for motor vehicles

A security system for motor vehicles (KFZ) which protects against theft or unauthorised use employs an on-board unit (SE) incorporating microprocessor control of the functions, starter, fuel pump and ignition in response to a combination of coded signals transmitted by an IR source (IRS) in the ignition key (ZS) and radio signals from a central control station (FS). The station (FS) operates as a cellular Global System for Mobile Communications and vehicle identities are stored within the cell for transmission at fixed intervals or for access on call by individual vehicles. The ignition key coding is matched to the station coding by a comparator in the unit (SE) before engine functions are made available.
