The hinge contains a slider (1) with spigots (7) at each end, in order to engage with pushrods (2) or tilt bearing bolts (3), and central coupling spigots (14) for engaging with a carrier (15) on an operating handle (16). The slide has a predetermined weak region (20), which can allow the coupling spigots to separate. The carrier may have a fork in order to enclose both coupling spigots, and the slider can have a transverse slit which extends to the weak region, and about which the slider can also be symmetrical. Use of a Z-shaped overlapping weak region, which after separation can be recombined using a single projection from the carrier is also considered.
