PURPOSE: To provide a digital portable telephone set to which a facsimile function is easily added without losing portability. CONSTITUTION: A hand scanner 2 reading information on an original is connected to a connection means 16. A MODEM 18 generates a facsimile transmission signal corresponding to the transmission system used for facsimile communication based on image information generated from the information on the original read by the hand scanner 2 connecting to the connection means 16. A control means 20 controls the reception timing of the image signal by the MODEM 18 based on a synchronizing signal synchronously with the read timing of the information on the original generated by the hand scanner 2.
