Dye-receiving element containing elastomeric beads in overcoat layer for thermal dye transfer

A dye-receiving element (DRE) comprises a reflective support carrying a dye image-receiving layer (DIRL) covered by an overcoat layer contg. crosslinked elastomeric beads (I) having a Tg of 45 [deg]C or less (pref. 10 [deg]C or less). (I) are of acrylic polymer, acrylic copolymer or styrene copolymer, and contain 5-40 wt.% crosslinking agent. (I) have particle size less than 1 micron, and are present at a coverage of 0.1-1.0 g/sq.m. Also claimed are: (a) a thermal dye transfer assembly, comprising the DRE superposed on a dye donor element (DDE) comprising a support carrying a dye layer (DL) consisting of a dye dispersed in a binder, such that DL is in contact with DIRL; and (b) a process for forming a dye transfer image, by imagewise heating DDE and transferring the image to DRE.
