摘要 PURPOSE: To industrially and advantageously produce L-isoleucine useful as medicines, food and feed additives, etc., by culturing a microorganism, rapidly growable in a culture medium containing L-homoserine as an only one nitrogen source, belonging to the genus Escherichia and capable of producing the L- isoleucine in a culture medium. CONSTITUTION: A microorganism, rapidly growable in a culture medium containing L-homoserine as an only one nitrogen source, belonging to the genus Escherichia and having the ability to produce L-isoleucine [e.g. Escherichia coil N-9156 strain (FERM BP-5056)] is separated as a mutant strain by the mutation treatment of a parent strain with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine, inoculating the separated mutant strain into a culture medium containing L- homoserine as the nitrogen source, culturing the strain at 33 deg.C for 5 days, producing and accumulating the L-isoleucine in the cultured product and collecting the produced L-isoleucine from the cultured product. Thereby, the L-isoleucine useful as medicines, food and feed additives, etc., is industrially and advantageously obtained by the fermentation method.
