PURPOSE: To obtain a waste gas purification catalyst reducing combustion temp., excellent in heat resistance without deteriorating its performance at a low cost by imparting a special crystal structure to an oxide contg. a rare earth metal and an alkali metal and allowing the alkali metal to enter into solid soln. CONSTITUTION: This waste gas purification catalyst is made of an oxide contg. a rare earth metal such as La and an alkali metal such as Rb. The oxide has monoclinic or hexagonal basic constituent grains represented by A2 O3 (A is the rare earth metal), the alkali metal enters into solid soln. in the grains and B2 CO3 (B is the alkali metal) exists in the grains. Since the alkali metal is contained, catalytic activity is improved and perfect combustion of particulates is attained at a relatively low temp. This catalyst is excellent in heat resistance and resistance to poisoning by SO2 and is low-cost because a noble metal is not contained.
