The strip is made in the form of a straight extrusion (2) of metal, plastics or rubber, having a curved upper surface (3) and two ribs (7,8) on its under surface. The ribs engage with the heads (11) of fixings (19) hammered into holes drilled in the floor along the line of the joint. Once the floor covering has been laid and the fixings fitted between adjacent edges, the strip is placed on top of the fixings. It is then tapped with a block and mallet so that the ribs on its under surface are pushed outwards and then engage with an annular recess (15) in each fixing head.
