The annular valve (10) has a valve seat (11) which is fastened in the casing (1) of the compressor, a guard (14) which is fastened to the seat at a distance, and an annular sealing element (12) which can be moved between the valve seat and the guard. Distributed over the circumference of the sealing element, helical springs (2) are arranged between the guard and the sealing element which move the sealing element in the closing direction towards the valve seat. The helical springs (2) are each fastened with one end in the guard (14). At or near the other end of each helical spring (2), the sealing element (12) is provided with guide means (6) for the spring end in question.
