The appts. (20) includes a float unit (11) connected to a measurement rope (18), and a sensor unit (2). The measurement rope is provided on a rotatable drum (28). The sensor unit determines the respective rotational setting of the measuring drum, and depending on an established output position, transmits a measurement signal to an evaluation unit (26) depending on the revolutions of the rotatable measuring drum. The evaluation unit evaluates the measurement signals, and esp. from the respective signals determine the respective filling level of the liquid in a container (22) and indicates this. A spring tensioning unit is provided, which ensures that the measuring rope is maintained continuously taut.
