<p>PURPOSE: To obtain a developer not causing fogging or the scattering of a toner in use over a long period of time and a carrier used for the developer by using polyolefin having a specified density or above as a coating resin in a carrier obtd. by coating the surface of magnetic substance particles with the coating resin. CONSTITUTION: In this carrier obtd. by coating the surfaces of magnetic substance particles with a coating resin, the coating resin is polyolefin having >=0.94g/cm<3> density. In the case of <0.94g/cm<3> density, the resin is easily ground by various shocks in a developing unit because of the low density and coating films of the resin are worn to cause image defects such as fog due to the reduction of the quantity of electric charges. When the density is excessively high, the resin is difficult to prepare, the resin itself becomes brittle and the durability of the carrier is deteriorated.
