A hollow block body (11) is formed symmetrically around a longitudinal axis (16) coincident with that of the gun barrel. The body is formed with apertures arranged symmetrically around the longitudinal axis to support components of a recoil mechanism (30) and a reloading mechanism (20). The apertures consist of cylindrical passages corresponding in shape and dimensions to the recoil or reloading mechanism components, which are similar to each other in configuration. The walls of the block body are of varying thickness, with the apertures located within the regions of greatest thickness.
