PURPOSE: To obtain an organic/inorganic composite material being excellent in wear, impact and piercing resistances and having good transparency for a long time by dispersing fine inorganic softenable particles having a refractive index near to that of a transparent resin in the resin. CONSTITUTION: This organic/inorganic composite material is obtained by dispersing fine inorganic softenable particles having a refractive index equal to the refractive index of a transparent resin±0.1 (usually, a low-melting glass powder which softens or melts at 300 deg.C or above is desirably used, and for example a low-melting glass having a composition of B2 O3 .BaO.SiO2 .Na2 O can be desirably used because its Tg can be lowered without changing the refractive index by increasing the Na2 O content) in the transparent resin (which may be a thermoplastic resin, and has desirably a Tg in the range of -40 to 130 deg.C and a refractive index of in the range of 1.45-1.65). This composite material can be desirably used in the form of a coating film, a film, a sheet, a molding or the like in use where properties such as high hardness, heat resistance, fireproofness, weather resistance and wear resistance are required.
