PURPOSE: To provide an automatic charging-mode-discriminating method by which whether a charging mode to be selected is a uniform charging mode or recovery charging mode can be discriminated and an automatic charging- mode-selecting device which can automatically execute the uniform charging or recovery charging. CONSTITUTION: In an automatic charging-mode-discriminating method, a uniform charging mode is selected when a charging current is equal to or smaller than a prescribed value or a recovery charging mode is selected when the charging current is larger than the prescribed value. An automatic charging. mode- selecting device has charging current value detecting functions 16 and 17 and a comparing function 18 which compares the detected values of the functions 16 and 17 with a preset prescribed value and selects either the uniform charging mode or recovery charging mode based on the detected signal of the comparing function 18.
