PURPOSE: To make an image smooth and to maintain high image quality by specifying the surface roughness of the surface of an electrifying roller formed with grinding. At this time, the electrifying roller 2 is provided with the electrifying surface finished to obtain surface roughness RZ of <=8μm by the grinding, the electrifying surface is brought into contact with the surface to be electrified of the photoreceptor 1, to form an electrifying nip part N and a DC voltage is applied by a power source. The electrifying surface of the electrifying roller 2 is finished at this value by the grinding, so that when only the DC voltage is applied or a superimposed voltage that the DC voltage is superimposed on an AC voltage, the smoothness of the image quality is secured and the melt- sticking of a developer can be prevented.
